Welcome! I'm Johanna. I'm a pediatric occupational therapist and the artist behind Chalk and Leaves.

What began as late-night sketching at my kitchen table as a child slowly grew into a place where I could share light, humor, and softness with anyone who needed it.

Every piece you see here is hand-planned, hand-drawn, and hand-packed by me, with the unwavering support of my mom, who proudly holds the titles of Top Production Assistant, Chief Problem Solver, and Keeper of All the Goods In Her Basement Because My Condo Isn't Big Enough; My dad gets medals for Best Lugger of Heavy Boxes and Best At Driving a U-Haul in the Snow; My partner is the Best Provider of a Consistent Flow of Snacks and Water, and Best Reminder of Everything I Might Be Forgetting

My inspiration comes from a mix of the heartfelt and the serious:

•   silly ideas that often come to me in dreams
•   my two flawless golden retrievers (who have no idea they are muses, but make for the best ones)
•   the strange and often horrifying state of the world
